This week at iGaming Germany, Mediastream CEO, Daniel Grabher, delivered a keynote speech on the state of the German market. Daniel commented “I came in with expectations, but I left with a reinforced understanding of just how dire the situation has become.”
Daniel continued, “I was positively surprised by the quality of speakers and attendees - many of whom are fighting every day to build a sustainable, regulated market. The discussions were insightful, but also frustrating.” One thing became clear across all panels: the regulated market is being strangled while the black market is thriving, growing stronger each month.

Daniel suggested, “It’s a pity that no German regulators were present. They could have listened to the reality on the ground” - the struggles of licensed operators who are fighting a battle they simply cannot win. How can they compete against black-market operators who face zero restrictions, no tax burdens, and none of the heavy compliance obstacles imposed on the legal market?
In conclusion, “It’s time for a shift. Regulators and licensed operators must stop operating in silos and start collaborating. The real enemy isn’t the legal market - it’s the black market. The only way forward is to join forces and tackle these criminal networks together.”
