"In the Shadow of Happiness" – a successful start at the Vienna Mediastream office

Last week, the first edition of the new event series "In the Shadow of Happiness" took place at Mediastream's Vienna office – a format that was launched in cooperation with Emil Diaconu (Social City), Strachota Thomas (Wiener Bezirksblatt) and Daniel Grabher, CEO and founder of Mediastream.

🎯 The aim of the evening was to look behind the curtain of an industry that at first glance means joy and entertainment for many – but for others is associated with risks, dependencies and loss of control.

The discussion addressed key challenges that society and regulation are increasingly confronted with – in Austria as well as internationally. With a global black-market share of around 80%, it is clear how necessary a new regulatory thinking is.

For Mediastream, this event is based on a clear vision: digital sovereignty, effective player protection and regulatory transparency, supported by modern technologies and in close cooperation with politics, administration and civil society.

As an Austrian company, it was particularly important to us contribute to the current discussion about the challenges on the domestic gambling market. Despite decades of experience, we in Austria are faced with fundamental structural questions:

The share of the black market remains alarmingly high.
Player protection is not sufficiently guaranteed in many areas.
And with the upcoming license change in 2027, there may be a unique opportunity to reshape the market in a new, secure and transparent way.

Daniel Grabher put it this way during the evening: "Looking is the first step. Taking responsibility is the second."

We would like to thank everyone involved for the strong start and look forward to the continuation of this series. Especially the expertise of;

Alice Schogger, Federal Ministry of Finance
Dr. Dominik Batthyany, SFU Vienna – Institute for Behavioral Addictions and Addiction Research
Michael Pavlik, Sales Manager KSV1870
